For us non musicians there's to kinds of music good and bad, Special Experiment falls in the first. Special experiment is the brainchild of German composer/keyboardist Dzidek Matcinkiewicz, a very talented musician with a lot of feeling and good chops. The music will appeal to fans of neo prog bands like Pallas and IQ and intelligent shredders like Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. There's a lot of influences here from New Age to keyboard heavy hard rock. Matcinkiewicz's playing style reminds me of Geoff Downes in latter day Asia and Marillion's Mark Kelly.

The album opener "Kiss of a Vampire" reminds me a little of Eddie Jobson's opening keyboard sequence in UK's classic "In The Dead of Night", then turning in an upbeat rocker with lots of interplay between Matcinkiewicz keys and guitar player Frank Tienemann. Although Matcinkiewicz has a blues background this doesn't sound bluesy at all, there's more of 80's hard rock in here that anything else but you can trace some hints of good old fusion in the compositions.

The whole album is consistent in style and sound but for me the opener "Kiss of a Vampire" and "King of Twilight" which opens with a mellow acoustic guitar and synths, then acoustic guitar and piano to turn into a powerful rocker ala latter day Asia, then tone down a tempo, then rocks again. This album is highly recommended to fans of Asia, neo prog, Ayreon, Rocket Scientists/Erik Norlander etc. you won't miss with this one.
